Crossbody bag size, strap length & material guide
A bag’s shape tells part of the story. Measurements, strap information and material details help you decide how it may work in your own day. Here is how to read those details without asking more of them than they can tell you.
Read dimensions in the stated order
Some listings state length, depth and height; others state height, width and depth. Read the labels beside the numbers. One inch equals 2.54 centimeters, and our inch equivalents are rounded. A listed body measurement does not include an unlisted strap length and does not promise interior clearance.
Depth matters as much as width. A flat wallet and a bulky keyring occupy very different shapes. Curved bags lose some space at the corners, and a divider can reduce the size of an individual compartment. Measure bulky items in all three directions and leave room for the bag’s construction.
Use strap details as a fit check
An adjustable strap can offer several carry positions, but the actual range depends on the product. Look for confirmed measurements in the listing. “Single strap” describes the number of straps; it does not mean adjustable or removable.
Try a piece of string along the path of a crossbody strap while wearing the sort of jacket you normally use. Mark the position where you would like the bag to sit and measure the string. This is a useful comparison when a full strap length is available. If only a drop measurement is listed, remember that it is a different measurement and cannot be substituted directly.
Leather: check the specific description
Our leather listings identify the leather type where confirmed. A two-layer cowhide description should not be read as a full-grain claim. Texture and finish differ between products. Keep leather away from prolonged moisture, direct heat and long periods of strong sunlight. Use a soft dry cloth for dust, and choose any specialty cleaner only after checking its compatibility with that bag’s finish and trying it on a hidden area.
PU: a synthetic surface
PU is synthetic leather, not animal leather. Avoid abrasive brushes, solvents and heavy soaking. For a small surface mark, begin with a soft cloth that is only slightly damp, try an inconspicuous spot first, and let the area air dry away from heat. Do not assume a PU surface makes the complete bag waterproof.
Canvas and Oxford cloth
Fabric styles can have coatings, linings, trims or hardware that need different care. Remove loose dust with a soft brush or dry cloth. If the item-specific instructions allow spot cleaning, work gently on a small area and avoid saturating the lining. We do not recommend machine washing based on the fabric name alone.
A little routine care
- Empty crumbs and dust from the inside regularly.
- Avoid forcing the zipper over an overfilled compartment.
- Keep sharp items in a separate pouch if needed.
- Store your bag dry and out of direct sunlight, without crushing its shape.
- Follow any care information supplied with the individual item.
